The GTSYNC card is used to synchronize the RTDS simulation timestep to an external time reference (e.g. GPS clock) and to synchronize devices under test.
The GTSYNC card is housed in a 1U rack-mountable chassis. It is used to synchronize the RTDS simulation timestep to an external time reference and to synchronize devices under test. The GSYNC connects to its dedicated GT port on NovaCor and cannot be daisy chained to other I/O cards.
The GTSYNC uses the output of GPS clocks and can accept 1 PPPS, IRIG-B, and IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol
(PTP master and slave-only mode). The GTSYNC can also act as PTP master to provide a clock source for external devices via IEEE 1588 v2. The GTSYNC also supports both IRIG−B and 1PPS output on both copper BNC and Fiber ST connections.
Synchronization of the simulation timestep to an external time reference is necessary for applicatons involving PMU testing and time-stamped IEC 61850 / IEC 61869-9 Sampled Values.
