Abstract:
Voltage Sourced Converter (VSC) based HVDC systems have a number of advantages compared with traditional Line-Commutated Converter (LCC) based HVDC transmission. In addition to the ability of controlling the power flow between two AC networks, VSC-HVDC systems can supply weak and passive networks and have no problem of commutation failure. Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC systems are more flexible and economic compared to two terminals VSC-HVDC, but its control strategy and protection schemes are more complex. Therefore it is important to have a tool which can simulate the dynamic performance of control strategies and protection functions for a multi-terminal VSC-HVDC.
