Abstract:
Southern California Edison (SCE) is deploying advanced smart grid technologies in an integrated system as part of its Smart Grid Strategy and Roadmap. An integrated lab environment combined with Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) for simulation and Electric Power Group's (EPG) synchrophasor technology applications for data synchronization, visualization and analysis has been set up at SCE. This lab is being utilized to build simulation cases and models to test equipment, interoperability, control schemes, cybersecurity and system performance under different operating and contingency scenarios. Integration of EPG's synchrophasor applications (ePDC™ for data synchronization, RTDMS ®1 for visualization, and PGDA™ for data analytics) with RTDS enables users to investigate, analyze and visualize the impacts of disturbances across the electric grid. This paper provides an overview of the RTDS integration with EPG's applications and discusses the beneficial use scenarios of this integrated lab environment.
