Abstract:
Voltage instability detection methods for power systems are well established, but most methods are based on off-line computer simulations and more suited for system planning. Real-Time Voltage Stability Margin (RVSM) method is one of the several voltage instability prediction methods developed recently at the University of Saskatchewan. RVSM method can determine the stability margins in real time using the locally available measurements and can indicate how much load can be added before the onset of voltage instability. This presentation will cover a case study using realistic load profile data over a 24-hour period and demonstrate using RTDS how a real-time long-term voltage instability analysis can be useful for both system planning and on-line application such as system operation.
