Abstract:
In order to accurately represent the increasing complexity of the power electronic facilities such as renewable sources, VSC transmission and FACTS that are beginning to dominate the electric power system and gain confidence in the new technologies, EMT simulation studies are now more essential than ever before. To meet this expanding need using EMTDC/PSCAD, E-TRAN translator has been developed that translates PSS/E simulation cases to PSCAD cases. E-TRAN also interfaces PSS/E to EMTDC so that both wide spread electromechanical effects and the wide frequency variation of electromagnetic effects can be simultaneously accommodated. E-TRAN Plus enables parallel computing with system models of different time steps to help reduce solution time of large complex power systems.
