Abstract:
This paper presents the implementation and validation of a decentralized short-term voltage instability mitigation scheme integrated with a real-time prediction framework. The proposed approach was deployed on a real-time simulation platform using a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS®) and a supervisory-level computer, leveraging the PhasorSmart® synchrophasor application platform. In this setup, real-time voltage measurements emulating short-term instability conditions are generated by RTDS® and transmitted via synchrophasor protocol to the supervisory computer, where the prediction and mitigation algorithms—developed in C++—are executed. The system predicts post-fault stability status using real-time data and initiates mitigation actions when instability is detected. Comprehensive testing under practical operational scenarios demonstrates the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed scheme in enhancing system resilience against short-term voltage instability.
