Abstract:
The adoption of TW-based protection solutions for transmission lines in power systems with high penetrations of Inverter-based Resources (IBRs) has gained more interest as the traditional phasor domain-based solutions become less effective due to lower fault current from inverters under short circuit conditions, possible bi-directional power flows under normal operation, and the inherent latency and accuracy on fault locating. A newly developed TW-based protection modeling based on existing techniques is presented and a novel solution based on the incident current is introduced.
