Development of the New Method for Transmission of Current and Voltage Measurements in Accordance with IEC 61850 Providing Reduction of the Traffics to the "Process Bus"
Abstract: Background. The modern approach to digital substations involves the use of a sufficiently large number of merging units (MU) and intelligent electronic devices (IED), the data transfer between them is carried out through the Local Area Network (LAN) using the SV and GOOSE protocols. Design of the LAN structure requires quite a lot of calculations of the information load in different versions of the LAN structure and the organization of SV streams.
Materials and Methods. To carry out the research of LAN traffics, a prototype of the IED was developed. The prototype implements distance protection function. The developed prototype provides data exchange according to the IEC 61850 standard (SV and GOOSE). For the implementation of the process bus, LAN equipment and the Real-time digital simulator (RTDS) were used.
Results. To reduce the traffic to the “process bus” a new method for current and voltage measurements transmission was developed. This method meets the requirements of IEC 61850 standard and provides LAN traffic reduction in comparison with IEC 61850 9.2 LE and considerable simplification of the LAN design problem. To implement a new method for transmitting measurements, the GTNET GSE component in the RTDS was improved.
Conclusions. Based on the results of tests in the RTDS it was revealed that the new method for transmitting measurements using GOOSE messages ensures the required time for protection function execution and reduces the workload of the “process bus” LAN in emergency mode by more than 1000 times compared to SV data transfer (IEC 61850 9.2 LE).

As of 2016 I graduated from Chuvash State University on the Relay Protection and Automation of Power System department, where i received bachelor degree. After that I went to the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where I received master’s degree as of 2018. During my studying at the University I started working as a trainee of Maintenance and Test Engineer.
After my graduation, I got a position of Application Engineer at MPEI. National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” is one of the largest technical universities in Russia. It provides the specialist’s training and scientific research in the field of power engineering, electrical engineering, radio electronics, computer engineering.
I have four years of experience in power engineering. During this time, I’ve developed a number of important skills, including development of relay protection logic diagrams to implement PAC logic, competence to use and configure relay protection devices of different vendors, RTDS models development.
In addition to engineering tasks, I teach practical and laboratory classes at the university in 2 disciplines: relay protection and the theory of automatic control.
Monitoring Analysis and Control of Power Grids using WAMS
Abstract: A real-time ATC estimator based on ANN has been developed and tested using the GTNET PMU provided in RTDS. In the process the OPENECA software has been used to archive the PMU data from the GTNET PMU and provided to the MATLAB which hosts the trained ANN based ATC estimator [1].
Additional work of developing framework for integrated analysis of transmission and distribution system on RTDS using multi-rate simulation is being done. In the proposed architecture the super-step and main-time step would be judiciously used for the integrated analysis.
