Watch our webinar on real-time simulation of offshore wind resources interfaced via MMC-HVDC with the RTDS Simulator. The deployment of wind energy is growing rapidly worldwide as we transition to a more sustainable power system, and HVDC technology is a key part of interfacing offshore wind to the mainland grid. MMC-HVDC is a well-established but complex technology that requires comprehensive modelling and testing prior to integration. In areas or projects with multi-infeed, multi-vendor, multi-terminal HVDC systems, the need for de-risking the technology is even greater.
Real-time electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation of offshore wind farms and HVDC schemes allows for efficient and comprehensive validation of system performance, as well as hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing of control and protection systems. The RTDS Simulator includes several options for modelling MMC-HVDC valves, including exciting new models that are embedded in the network (eliminating the interface transmission line that was previously required). A new sample case demonstrating the integration of an offshore wind farm via MMC-HVDC is also available in the RSCAD FX software. Join us for this free webinar from RTDS Technologies, where we’ll discuss the options for modelling MMC-HVDC with our tool and demonstrate this exciting new sample case.
